Today, I visited the Allama Iqaid Open University in Islamabad. It is called "open" because it is (supposed) to be using distance learning. At this point that constitues sending books and materials to people in the remote villages and they read, etc. and send it back for a grade. I asked about online teaching--but they seem to think that is leapyears away. I did learn MUCH about the political system here--talked to a librarian I had met in October for 3 hours--too much to put on a blog, but extremely interesting and helpful. It all began because I asked why they turned off the electricity 4 hours a day now (they did not in October)...well....that started the conversation. Actually we are lucky, because in Lahore it is off 8 hours and in the remote areas up to 12 hours a day.
Anyway, I'm going back the the University on the 10th to give a lecture. I also met with the people from Asialinks to confirm the computers for the schools, etc. It's such a wonderful organization--great people!
Tomorrow I'm off to the Women's University. We'll see what that brings.......
I'd tell a joke if I knew one--to lighten up this portion of the blog, GRIN...and sorry for no exciting pictures...but more will come.
Thanks for listening and Happy Derby Week!
